About Me

After spending 20 years in the workforce, I decided it was time to make a major life change.  So I quit my job as Promotions Director for the NDSU Division of Performing Arts to become a full-time graduate student at North Dakota State University.  I believe my work and life experiences have only prepared me for this transition and I look forward to many years of teaching, research, and service to the community and university.

I have been happily married to Steve Beckermann for nearly two decades.  Steve is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Instructional Design and Technology at the University of North Dakota (gasp!) and works at the Technology Learning and Media Center at NDSU.  We have two beautiful and intelligent daughters, Nora and Julia, who are continuously reminding us how lucky we are to have them in our lives.  We also have a cat, Sabina, who is clearly the boss of our household.

Having lived in Fargo most of my life, I am happy to give back to the community in a variety of ways.  I am a board member of the Fargo-Moorhead Area Youth Symphonies, a challenging ensemble for our young musicians; a member of The Arts Partnership Regranting Committee, an annual meeting where we award grants to area arts organizations. I am also actively attempting to save my 140-year old family cemetery (and 14 others) from being inundated by flood waters created by the proposed FM Diversion.  Please visit FMDam.org for details.

In my free time I enjoy music (Tragically Hip and The Avett Brothers are my favorite bands), knitting, playing piano, reading (favorite authors include Nick Hornby, Ian McEwan, Dave Eggers, and Margaret Atwood), and talking walks in the park or along the river.  My children have gotten me hooked on Doctor Who and Sherlock (the Benedict Cumberbatch version, of course).  Also, I have a fabulous front porch and spend many summer hours watching the world unfold.
